The Paula Kent Meehan Pet Care Foundation is sponsoring the Basic Black adoption event happening at all six LA Animal Services Centers on Saturday, Sept. 28 and Sunday, Sept. 29. During the Basic Black weekend, the adoption fees for dogs with primarily black fur will be reduced by $50, which does not include the $20 license fee for LA City residents. Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived.

It’s currently the only legal off-leash dog beach in LA county. This beach has a large parking, restrooms, and there was plenty of room for the pups to run around.
Sepulveda Basin Off-Leash Dog Park

The park is sectioned off into three areas: Small Dogs, Large Dogs, and Timid Dogs. All three areas are separated by chain-linked fencing and all three had their own agility course. The Large Dog section is massive with plenty of space for the dogs to run around and chairs and picnic tables for the humans.There is a large dedicated parking lot and it’s pretty packed during peak hours.
Hollywood Walk of Fame

It doesn’t cost anything to stroll around and check out the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yes, it’s a very touristy thing to do, but if it’s your first time in LA, it’s just one of those things you want to tick off your list.
Lake Hollywood Park

It’s a gorgeous pet-friendly park with a large open grassy area for a nice picnic with the Hollywood sign in the distance. Street parking is on a hill, so be prepared to parallel park either downhill or uphill. If you go up the hill, just a short distance, you’ll get another view of the Hollywood sign. We saw many people here taking pictures, but we personally like the angle from down below where the park is.
Cherry Canyon Park

Cherry Canyon Park is in the San Rafael Hills which is about 15 miles north of downtown Los Angeles. The park has many trails, including trails for horses and mountain bikers.
This hike provides a great panoramic view of the San Gabriel Valley. Our favorite trail is Owl Trail which is a peaceful and shaded dirt trail. Your shoes and your pup’s paws will definitely get dusty.
Hahamongna Watershed Park

The park is beautifully maintained with plenty of facilities which include a 24-hole Frisbee golf course, numerous picnic areas, barbecue pits, an athletic field, hiking trails, and restrooms. This is a great place to walk if you want to feel like you are in the wilderness without leaving the city. Beautiful trees, golden light, mountain views, and sparse crowds make this a fantastic place to take your pups.
Fletcher"Fetch" Dog Park

This park is fairly new and just had its grand opening in October 2020.The park has a small dog big dog side had different agility items, under 35lbs) and a big dog area (35lbs+) There are some cute bone-shaped benches and even a shaded bench area for humans. The park is quite secluded with one side being the freeway and the other side has a train track. There is also a basketball court and children’s playground which is pretty well-lit when it starts to get dark.
Runyon Canon Park

There are several trails to choose from and they are all rated moderate. You will also spot a lot of dogs at Runyon Canyon.Despite its popularity, there are no bathroom facilities and only street parking is available.
The Grove / Farmers Market

The Grove offers a great selection of restaurants, a variety of retailers, and some pop-up stores. It’s great that you can enjoy all of this with your main furry squeeze. There is a small grassy area where you can sit down and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of The Grove.
Angeles National Forest

If you drive north of downtown and follow the Angeles Crest Highway, you’ll find yourself driving up through the Angeles National Forest. It’s such a beautiful drive with several vista points along the way where you can stop and enjoy the views of Los Angeles. It’s also the perfect spot to enjoy a snow day with your pups.
